Interpreter Workshops
ASL Terp + Teach's Workshop series provides targeted trainings that broaden interpreting perspectives. Drawing on psycholinguistics, anthropology, and history, we'll explore not only language, but how psychology and meaning are intertwined in every linguistic exchange, and how this impacts interpreter processes.

1 PM - 2:30 PM PST
Explore how psycholinguistics shape perception and behavior in this 1.5 hour workshop. Taking a thousand foot view of language itself, we'll examine manipulative language, what words connote/denote, and how these "Word Weapons" affect interpreting choices, our Deaf clients, and even, unwitting bystanders.
In this workshop, Interpreters will:
- Examine real-world examples of "Word Weapons", identifying how and why they're used in conversation
- Analyze everyday words/phrases for their real meanings
- Apply a broadened awareness of, and be able to better wield, these linguistic skills to improve interpreter output
*Contains sensitive linguistic examples
**For working interpreters and ITP students
