Explore how psycholinguistics shape perception and behavior in this 1.5 hour workshop. Taking a thousand foot view of language itself, we'll examine manipulative language, what words connote/denote, and how these "Word Weapons" affect interpreting choices, our Deaf clients, and even, unwitting bystanders. In this workshop, Interpreters will: Examine real-world examples of "Word Weapons", identifying how and why they're used in conversation Analyze everyday words/phrases for their real meanings Apply a broadened awareness of, and be able to better wield, these linguistic skills to improve interpreter output *Contains sensitive linguistic examples **For working interpreters and ITP students LIVE workshop presented via Zoom in ASL (no voice interpretation) RECORDED workshop will contain Voice Interpretation
